We aren’t having sex. We’ve struggled with this, but we are currently abstaining, and plan to continue doing so. No. That’s wonderful. The Bible teaches that the gift of sex was created by God for our enjoyment, but it is a gift with guidelines. At NewSpring, we believe that God’s plan for sex is clear: it was designed to be enjoyed by a man and a woman after they make the lifelong commitment of marriage. You are to be congratulated for making this choice. And, it speaks well of the future of your relationship. We believe that following God’s plan always means taking the direct route toward His blessing. Thanks for being willing to share that with us. Right now, we can’t move forward with making plans for an auditorium wedding. Here’s why: at NewSpring we believe that God’s plan for sex is clear: it was designed to be enjoyed by a man and a woman after they make the lifelong commitment of marriage. And, we believe that in order for a couple to be in the center of God’s blessing they need to follow God’s plan. At NewSpring, we often say that if a person finds themselves out of the path of God’s direction, the thing to do is “get as close to God’s will as fast as they can.” And if we plan an auditorium wedding (which will need at least six months advanced notice), it doesn’t really meet that goal. What can we do then? Here are a couple of options to think about… If you and your fiance decide to abstain from sex between now and your wedding, we will be happy to go ahead and plan the auditorium wedding. You and your fiance could schedule an office wedding to take place in the next few weeks, and then we would be happy to plan the larger ceremony which could take place at the later date you originally imagined. Having said this, we know that it can be difficult to abstain from sex when you’re deeply in love, committed, and growing closer all the time. If you’ve had some missteps along the way, you should know that God is not nearly as interested in the failures of your past as He is in the direction of your present and future. We want to congratulate you and support you as you make the choice to follow God’s instructions. We believe that following God’s plan always means taking the direct route toward His blessing. If you don’t yet have the following information (regarding dates and locations), that’s fine.
